Kirtan on State
An Evening of Hanuman Chalisas
with Trevor & friends

In anticipation of Hanuman Jayanti (Hanuman’s ‘appearance’ day on the Hindu calendar) which falls on Chaitra Purnima (Full moon in the month of April - the 23rd this year) we’re gathering at Kirtan on State on Friday 4/19 for an evening of Hanuman Chalisas.

The Chalisa is a 40-verse hymn in praise of Hanuman’s virtues and heroic feats in service and devotion to Sri Ram. Its sublime poetry and deep scriptural reference possess the power to clear karmas, ward off negative entities, and evoke our higher selves.

Join us for this powerful group devotional practice. No experience is necessary. Chant sheets will be provided.

Hanuman Chalisa Workshop
in person and on Zoom
w/ Trevor

Our Winter Chalisa workshop was such a powerful devotional experience that we’ve decided to offer it again this Spring to continue to grow and expand the culture of Hanuman bhakti and Chalisa chanting.

Join us four Saturdays in May to explore the transformative power of the Hanuman Chalisa, a 40-verse poem celebrating Hanuman's virtues and devotion to Lord Rama, detailing his greatest feats in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Arguably one of the most popular Hindu devotional hymns, chanting the Chalisa is a daily spiritual practice for countless devotees the world over.

This four-part workshop will delve into the mythology and history of the Chalisa, address correct pronunciation, chanting modes and melodies, and unpack the rich content of each verse, considered a mahamantra, or “great mantra”, by Neem Karoli Baba.

Recordings will be made available for all sessions, along with various enrichment materials, including a Chalisa playlist for practicing and listening.

Two scholarships are available for sincere applicants in financial need. To apply contact Trevor.

Aligning Through the Elements
A Yogic Journey with the Taatwas
with Swami Premajyoti

Join Swami Premajyoti for a two-hour journey through the 5 elements as aspects of reality. (followed by Q & A)

In this Masterclass, you will be guided through Asana, Pranayama and Classical Meditation, to promote elemental awareness and purification for the whole of your being from gross to the most subtle.

Working deeply with the elements in this way, enhances the mental, psychic and spiritual development, ultimately leading to a fuller, richer inner experience of one’s own personal nature and the very nature of existence itself.

Through tantric practice such as this, a refinement of the tattwas on the subtle level, as well as every other level, increases vital energy, so that the tattwas vibrate harmoniously, leading to a pervasive state of equilibrium within the human system. When we arrive at a state of equilibrium, the mind is then freed to move into deep inner awareness, greater joy and the strength of stillness.

His seven albums have received critical acclaim from O, The Oprah Magazine, Yoga Journal, and The Guardian, among others. Kirtan w/ Nina Rao

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to host one of our favorite kirtan wallahs, Nina Rao, whose grace, elegance and pure devotion shine brightly in her chanting.

Nina Rao learned traditional chants from her grandfather as young girl in a village in south India. The chants quietly stayed with her until she rediscovered chanting with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. In 1998 she met her guru, Sri Siddhi Ma in the foothills of the Himalayas and spent time with her regularly for 19 years. For many years Nina has been Krishna Das’ business manager and accompanies him musically as well. In 2007, she made her debut recording 'Nina Chalisa' on Krishna Das’ CD “Flow of Grace"; January 2013 she released her own double-album, “Antarayaami-Knower of All Hearts"; August 2018 her second album “Anubhav” was released entirely crowd-funded. Nina regularly leads kirtan, workshops, and retreats in New York and beyond, and leads workshops and courses online across many platforms She is also the founder and chairwoman of the non-profit SavingWildTigers.org which supports the conservation of wild tigers and all species in their natural habitat in India. Nina is also a hospice volunteer for VNSNY and other organizations. In addition, she hosts a podcast series on the Be Here Now Network exploring spirituality, practice, and Nature. She is currently recording mantras to Tara in the Buddhist tradition, with 21 Taras Collective. For more information visit NinaRaoChant.com.

Mantra Yoga Workshop
Sacred Sounds for Meditation
& Ev
eryday Practice
Led by Trevor Arthur

Although its meaning has become somewhat distorted in modern parlance, “mantra” is by many accounts the key to “yoga” in a deeper sense, holding the power to elevate consciousness and strengthen our connection to the Divine.

The Mantra Yoga Workshop will explore the theory and practice of mantra, alongside the rich philosophy and mythology embedded within, to the end of developing a personal and enriching practice of mantra yoga for all participants.

Topics covered will include mantra meditation, mudras, pranayama, reading transliterated Sanskrit and correct pronunciation, chanting and intonation, the use of mantras in everyday life, and the mantras of the modern yoga asana tradition.

This is a workshop for yoga asana teachers and practitioners, meditators, bhakti yogis, and for anyone curious about the power and magic of sound, symbol, and devotion.

Full Moon Ceremony
w/ Happy Blue Marble & The Astral Healer

The Full Moon on February 24th is shining its cosmic spotlight on Virgo, igniting a fiery passion in our Heart Chakra. The Heart Chakra plays a crucial role in governing the energy linked with self-love, compassion, openness, and unconditional love. When our Heart Chakra is blocked or out of balance, we have trouble with forgiveness and love, especially towards ourselves. This event presents a unique opportunity for us to unlock our Heart Chakra and embrace our inner power. Virgo whispers to us that we hold the reins of our destiny, and it is we who decide which energies stay, which are released, and which enter our lives. This vibration of Virgo enables healing and empowerment, reminding us of the magic within us that can manifest our heart's desires.

This energy will guide us to recognize the stifling effects of imposter syndrome. We often hold back from sharing our talents, fearing they are not good enough. Virgo teaches us that we are always worthy, always ready, and perfect just the way we are. Virgo's energy helps us to detoxify our minds and Heart Chakra of any doubts or beliefs that undermine our worth. As we bask in the luminous glow of this Virgo Full Moon, we will cut loose self-doubt by embracing our brilliance, allowing us to share our magic with the world without fear of imperfection.

This Full Moon also presents a chance to use our Heart Chakra and Virgos healing energy to embrace our mistakes. For mistakes are simply lessons that propel us towards a brighter future, revealing new paths of self-discovery and new dimensions of our character. Loving ourselves through our mistakes is the key to unlocking our full potential.

Let the Virgo Full Moon kindle within you a rebirth, purging the Heart Chakra of all impurities and revealing your boundless potential.

The moon holds the power to unlock what is within. This allows us to release what weighs us down. Give up your concerns, your fears, your bad habits, and the negative influences in your life so that you can heal and progress. We use the brilliant white light of the moon as blanket filled with encouragement during our release.

Whether you are an experienced seeker or just beginning to explore the power of the moon our events are designed to spark inspiration and encourage you to harness transformation to achieve your dreams

Join us for the Cold Full Moon in Cancer. The focus of this Moon is the Solar Plexus Chakra. This chakra is responsible for regulating inner wisdom, strength, and self-control. The moon holds the power to unlock what is within. This allows us to release what weighs us down. Then we can make space for the seeds of fresh beginnings to bloom. When the Solar Plexus Chakra is blocked it can cast shadows upon your self-worth and decision-making abilities. You may find yourself caught in a cycle of stagnation, unable to take hold of the reins of your destiny. If the Solar Plexus Chakra is overactive, you may have excessive aggression or a need for control. This chakra can be felt in digestive issues or stomach discomfort. If you have tummy troubles the Solar Plexus Chakra might hold the key to unlocking the magic of your well-being.

108 Sun Salutations
w/ Yoga Nidra & Kirtan

The Winter Solstice is an auspicious time to pay our respects to the luminous, life-giving power of the Sun, on the shortest day of the Solar year. In so doing, we invite the potency to the Sun into our own lives, boosting our personal resilience and feeding our internal flame.

In many modern postural yoga traditions it has become customary to observe this occasion with an act of austerity and devotion, or tapas, performing a surya namaskara mala: 108 sun salutations.

Join Rob and Trevor for a special practice of surya namaskara, followed by a restorative yoga nidra and a celebratory kirtan.

In 2013 he completed a 500 hour Dharma Yoga Center certification and a 50-hour Rocket Vinyasa certification from Asta Yoga.  He wants to help his students evolve beyond the physical and mental, attuning to their natural rhythms and developing their 6th sense.

Join Zarah in a special workshop to discover practical ways to integrate Ayurveda into your daily routine, to harmonize with the seasons, and to honor your unique life journey. Learn simple, accessible practices that can truly be lived in the here and now.

Bio:

A soulful, beautiful transmission of the Divine...Mystical Kirtan with Mirabai Moon offers a passionate embrace of the Divine Essence right here, right now... in your embodied human form, just as you are.

Singer/songwriter Mirabai Moon's immensely versatile and powerfully expressive voice is most frequently compared to that of folk icons Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, and Ani DiFranco. Her music takes listeners on a journey, flowing effortlessly from ethereal dreaminess to soulful blues and jazz.

She honed her craft studying vocal improvisation with jazz legend Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon of Voicestra.  After nearly two decades of songwriting and three original albums, she fell in love with the practice of Kirtan.  In 2010, Mirabai devoted herself as a Bhakta, singing sacred chants in Sanskrit, sharing her love of the Divine with others through call and response devotional chanting.

Mirabai's life changing experiences with kirtan and mantra practice led her to explore other sound healing modalities.  She now uses crystal singing bowls, chimes and other vibratory instruments with groups and individual clients for healing and transformation work.  Mirabai tours across North America and internationally, sharing chant music and sound healing in yoga studios, healing centers, and festivals. Her offerings guide participants into experiences of profound healing and unconditional love through Bhakti Yoga practices.

Sister Circle

Dear sisters, we invite you to gather once more in love and community on Saturday March 11th from 3-5pm. This circle is inspired by the sacred festival of Holi, which takes place a few days prior. Holi, one of the biggest holidays of the year in India, is a colorful and playful celebration of good over evil and the victory of love.

We will be exploring origins and themes of Holi, as well as various practices to integrate the wisdom of this auspicious celebration into our consciousness. Holi teaches us universal love, courage, childlike play, devotion, liberation, and how to add more vivid color into our lives. In addition to some special Holi fun, we will be connecting as per usual over tea, prayer, share circle and song.

We look forward to connecting with you sisters!

Offering Kalavahana
& Siri Joti Puja

With great pleasure we announce that Yoga on State will have the honor and blessing to host Venu Syama, “Amma”, on Sunday, September 4th. Amma will offer individual 30 min. Kalavahana healing sessions, from 10am - 2:30pm, and will facilitate a Siri Joti puja beginning at 3pm.

Kalavahana (Shakti path) is a ritual from the ancient wisdom of Srividya. The ritual helps in removing bodily afflictions, and transforming mental, social, and spiritual status. Kalavahana invokes enough cosmic energy for activating and balancing power centers in the body (chakras). This healing and empowerment balances and harmonizes the body, the mind, and the emotions, leaving participants feeling clear and at peace. To schedule an appt. contact Raviena at 626-780-0000
Siri Joti means “Wealth of Light”. Wherever this community ritual is performed, wealth, health, and abundance come in. Healing energy is amplified during this ceremony, benefitting the participants, their families, the land/space, and the surrounding community. Together we will create a visual manifestation of the Goddess in the form of a Sri Yantra, which will be worshiped with flowers and mantra.

To learn more about Amma, her lineage, and the Srividya tradition, visit www.kam-usa.org
